Our Town Cicero Annual Events
So much planned for 2017!
The Taste of Chocolate
February 13th 2017
The Taste of Chocolate is held in February at 10 West in Downtown Cicero. In 2016, we had 22 businesses and organizations participating and 150 invited guests. Each vendor set up a booth with a delicious chocolate treat and welcomed guests to sample their items. The evening event provides a tasty way to mingle with friends and get to know those who participated in the event.
Murder Mystery Dinner
April 27th 2017
In April, OTC sponsored its first Murder Mystery Dinner at 10 West. Guests were encouraged to dress in 1920’s garb while they tried to solve The Murder at the Juice Joint. Everyone played a part, from the Local Sheriff (who turned out to be the murderer) to a cast of gangsters, flappers, and other characters. The evening was a rousing (if not raucous) success as participants mingled, ate a delicious meal, and interviewed other guests to determine who was guilty. The first Mystery Dinner included 40 attendees.
Dine on the Causeway
September 9th 2017
OTC’s signature event, Dine on the Causeway, took place September 10th. The evening was a huge success with 264 guests attending. Guests enjoyed wonderful entertainment provided by the Jazz band on the floating dock, Music by the Hamilton Heights Choir and Swing Band, a program featuring the American Legion presenting the colors, Jennifer Boone, HHHS Choral Director, sang the National Anthem. Guests also strolled the causeway and enjoyed appetizers and dinner all while meeting old and new friends. Be sure to mark your calendars for next year’s Dine on the Causeway on September 9th, which promises to be bigger and better than ever.
Fall Festival & Costume Parade
October 28th 2017
On October 29th, OTC sponsored its second annual Fall Festival and Costume Parade. This free kid-friendly festival was held at the Cicero Community Park and included over 300 children and adults. Local businesses and organizations set up booths with games and activities for the kids who carried a punch card to indicate that they had completed all of the activities. The Fire Department had one of the trucks for kids to investigate, free hot dogs were served, a flash mob dance routine was organized, and of course, there was the pet costume parade and children’s costume contest. This year’s event was blessed with exceptional weather, and next year we anticipate an even larger crowd!
Christmas Tree Lighting Festival
December 2nd 2017
The culmination of this year’s OTC activity calendar is the First Annual Christmas Tree Lighting Festival on Saturday, December 3rd. The event is designed to become part of the community’s traditional celebration of the holidays which begins with Breakfast with Santa at Red Bridge Park. The festivities continue throughout the day with the Christmas Market Place at the library and the Christmas Parade, and culminates with the 1st Annual Christmas Tree Lighting Festival which will be held at the Pocket Park and on Jackson Street that same day. From 4:30-6:30 several free events will be featured. Games with prizes will be located at four businesses on Jackson Street and at the Cicero Town Hall. Families are invited to visit Old Saint Nick at Santa Land located in the Pocket Park adjacent to Town Hall. Parents are welcome to take photos of their children with Santa free of charge, and kids will be leaving with a treat in hand. But the highpoint of the day, the 1st Annual Christmas Tree Lighting will occur at 6:45. A huge tree, donated by Cicero residents, Dave and Becky Benefiel, will be positioned in the Pocket Park and illuminated with pomp and circumstance by three of the area’s kids.
